MEET JOAN BENNETT ROSS
A Life in Art & Medicine
Joan has spent decades balancing two passions—saving lives as a surgeon and capturing nature’s beauty on canvas.

JOAN'S JOURNEY
FROM SURGERY TO THE STUDIO
Joan had a difficult choice early in life—medicine or art. She chose to heal as a surgeon, but never let go of her love for painting. For over 30 years, she balanced both worlds, mastering precision in the operating room and expression on the canvas.
Now, as she steps away from medicine, she’s fully embracing her artistic journey, bringing landscapes to life with light, shadow, and emotion. Each brushstroke is a reflection of her deep connection to nature and the world around her.

Seeing beneath the surface is key—whether in surgery or in art. Light, shadow, and depth shape every masterpiece.

Plein Air Passion
Painting in the Wild
Joan’s love for plein air painting allows her to fully immerse herself in nature. Whether she’s painting by a quiet lake, capturing the rugged beauty of her favourite places in Killarney, Northern Ontario, or following the shifting light across a vast landscape, she embraces the ever-changing elements.
The movement of the wind, the dance of shadows, and the raw, untouched scenery bring a deep authenticity to her work. Each brushstroke reflects not just what she sees but what she feels in the moment, creating paintings that are as alive as the landscapes themselves.
